A #Slice of Procrastination – 5 of 31

Let’s call this a
Performance Piece, an
Experiment.

Claim a need for
Sleep, or
Anything really.

Go do that first instead of
Doing whatever is
Important, or
Necessary.

Set your alarm to go off at the
Last Possible Second, or a
Close approximation.

Race
to
the
Finish
Line.

(Hope
for
the
best.)

I so know this feeling. Hope for the best the way isn’t it.

This is kind of a silly piece in response to my students’ presentation last week about procrastination. I figured I would see what it felt like to really wait until the last possible second to write something for this. SO I set my alarm so I could get up and write it late and see what I wrote under pressure. I hit the snooze too many times and the most I had time for was a quick poem. I would have explained it in the post, but I didn’t have enough time. ;)
I agree – just hoping for the best way is not the best approach to anything.

  2. That was a fun idea! Though I’d never be able to get up in the middle of the night to write. I’m a morning person :)

    • CBethM says:

Well…it nearly didn’t happen. Something bugged me when I hit the snooze on my phone a fourth time (so it was going off between 11:00 and 11:40…my poor husband!) and I realized that if I didn’t get my butt in gear, I would have let myself down with my own stupid idea…so I got up and did this. I’m a morning person, too. This hurt.

  3. Love this – fun idea. Many of my students would relate. :)

    • CBethM says:

Mine, too. And now with them emailing me papers and notes or posting them to Edmodo, I can see what hour they are doing this work. Incredible. I keep crazy hours, but they do not correspond very well to theirs.

  4. I think this poem is great and the context of your experiment is interesting! I’m a big time procrastinator! I put a positive spin on it and call it ‘deadline driven’ !
